Letters, 1856-1909.

Letters written by Nadar to various correspondents, including Hector Cremieux, Louis Deschamps, Alphonse Lemerre, Georges Montorgueil, Paul Perret, Champfleury and others. Nadar discusses several projects and ventures in which he is involved, including the Societe de Navigation Aerienne. He also expresses a desire to make a portrait of an unidentified gentleman. Other subjects mentioned include personal health, business engagements and the sale of his work, and the war with Prussia. In a letter of 1901 he mentions Armand Dayot and Honore Daumier; in his note to Champfleury, dated 1889, Nadar asks for the return of a pedestal and sends his regards to Bracquemond; a letter dated 1885 to Gaston Calmette concerns his introduction to Lemerre's L'Epitre au cure.

French journalist, director of Le Figaro from 1902-1914, who made this newspaper one of the most important forces in the French press. He was killed in his office by the wife of the French minister of finance, Joseph Caillaux, against whom Calmette had conducted a journalistic campaign accusing him of corruption. Champfleury (pseudonym for Jules François Félix Husson-Fleury) was a self-educated critic and art historian, as well as a prolific author of fiction.
